We’re Back!

We’re back! Our sincerest apologies for being M.I.A. for the last couple months. Due to some technical difficulties (a.k.a the evil interweb elves) we have unfortunately been offline for a short time, but thanks to some helpful tech-savvy people we are back up and running! It seems that within that short amount of time there has been so much that has happened, and we can’t wait to catch you up on all the newness. The most exciting change is that we have just moved into a wonderful new office space, which we will post pics as soon as everything has found its place. For the time being, we must display our elation that Spring has sprung by sharing with you some fresh floral inspiration perfect for celebrating this beautiful season!

Aqua Accents

With our interiors, bringing In an element of a surprise with an unexpected color into an otherwise classically styled space is one of our favorite ways to add another layer of interest to the decor. And….what better color to do that with then AQUA! Aqua is almost a neutral in the sense that there are few colors it does not work with, however when contrasted against a more subdued color palette the color really shines. Here are some examples of interiors that exhibit the fantastic use of aqua as an accent.

Rockin’ Moroccan

One place that only one of us here at Nest has had the pleasure of visiting, but a destination that is high on all of our lists, Morocco is a gold mine of inspiration. After this past three day weekend, we found the need for a bit of a jump start to get us back into the groove of things, and what better then the vibrant and stimulating designs that stem from this oasis. Everywhere we turn these days we can find inspirations that stem from moorish architectural elements, for example the Quatrefoil that we find being used in so many modern patterns. Also, the remarkable textiles and mosaics that are found in places like Marrakech, and these are just the tip of the iceberg. For us, small elements like the Moroccan Pouf (one of our favorite accent pieces) or an intricately carved wooden side table are ways we love to sneak some of this ethnic flare into our designs. The brilliant use and mixing of colors, patterns, shapes, and textures found in Moroccan influenced design is the perfect way to get this week going. Enjoy!

Food For Design

We hope you don’t mind, but for this entry of “Food For Design” we went a little nutty…. Today we are celebrating Pistachios! At the peak of their season, these savory snacks are a perfect source of inspiration. Pistachios have a wonderfully earthy and rustic flavor. We could use the same words to describe its physical appearance. The neutral earth tones, mixed with some more vibrant shades of greens, and the unrefined edges of the shells are all elements we used to find images that translate this tasty food into design.

Take Me Back To The Twenties

If we were able to travel back in history to experience another design era, one of our first choices would absolutely be the Twenties. But, because there is not yet a time machine, we can always virtually marvel at all the things we love most about the era. Some of the best art and design of the Twenties can be associated with the Art Deco style. This period may have been a short lived trend at the time of its generation, but it’s influence is unequivocal. Art Deco brought the introduction of uncommon colors such as black and metallics into interiors, the use of simple geometric shapes to create captivating patterns, and of course the AMAZING jewelry and fashion. From wallpaper to architecture, some of our favorite designs are direct influences of this aesthetic age. So, until that time machine is available, we have collected some deco inspired details to take us back in time. Hope you Enjoy!

Not Too Shabby Shelving

In almost every home there is some sort of need for storage and shelving, and for many of us this necessity can be difficult to execute. Shelving units can be both financially demanding as well as aesthetically challenging. Although there are a decent number of ready made options, unfortunately many of them are either overbearing or boring. We are always on the look out for new and exciting storage and display ideas. We have found some wonderfully innovative ideas that have motivated us to think outside the box when it comes to shelving, and we hope it will do the same for you!

Well Suited

This may be a personal association, but for some reason it feels that this time of year exudes the same essence of a well tailored mens suit. Maybe it’s the warm and earthy winter colors, or the wooly and plaid fabrics they use, or maybe the relation comes from thinking about getting dressed up for family gatherings. Whatever the reason for the association, apparently we are right on track with the Vogue trend forecast for this fall. We found some interiors that take that dapper feeling of an amazing mens suit and carry it into some swanky and spirited interiors.

A Work of Art

While some of us aren’t able to make it out to museums as often as we would like, the gallery wall allows us to be surrounded by art in our very own home. There are so many creative ways to assemble a gallery wall, from framing old letters to handmade papers, we can create our very own private collection. The key however is to create a wall that gives the room personality and character, while remaining true to the overall design of the room, leaving out the clutter. Do not feel confined when it comes to framing and different styles, mix and match and most importantly have fun with it! Here are some beautiful examples.

Mirror Mirror On The Wall..

What can’t you do with mirrors? Whether we are using them as focal point above a fireplace, or a decorative grouping on a blank wall, mirrors are one of our most coveted accessories. They have the ability to make a room feel more spacious while adding a polished style to your room. The options and uses are endless, but here are some of our go-to mirrors and a few inspiring interiors that fabulously showcase the use of mirrors.

From our Nest to yours….
